Computing Elastic Moduli of Igneous Rocks Using Modal Composition and Effective Medium Theory

Elastic constants of rock materials are the basic parameters required for modeling response under mechanical loads. Experimental tests determining these properties expensive, time-consuming and suffer from a high uncertainty due to both experimental limitations heterogeneous nature materials. To avoid such difficulties, in this paper method is suggested elastic by their porosity modal composition employing effective medium theory. The Voigt–Reuss–Hill average used determine studied igneous rocks according moduli mineral constituents. Then, effect has been taken into account considering as two-phase material, Kuster–Toksoz formulation providing close estimation different moduli. solutions provided isotropic rocks.
